Beyond the 10-Series: Structural Integration within Craniosacral Work – Columbus

Structural Integration Bodywork, created by Dr. Ida Rolf, is focused on connective tissue (fascia) rather than the muscles.  Where conventional massage may focus on muscular tension, this is quite a different approach based on the integrity of inter-connection and  fascial alignment.  AS SI Therapists, we work with a whole body approach and strive for internal efficient organization.  From my training in the 1990’s this is not seen as massage, but as a targeted manual therapy which works with the fascia to reset for functional optimization.

When Your body feels better aligned with this work, you may experience:

  • A sense of space in your body rather than feeling compresssed or bunched up.
  • Improve posture and less effort in movement.
  • Greater internal coordination.
  • Less tension as the fascial network releases and re-integrates in a healthier organization.
  • A greater sense of your body as an integrated whole.

Some of the most rewarding results are:  less pain, better range of motion, feeling length in your alignment, and efficient motion.

For the last 30 years, I have used my training and experience to help people through the teachings of Dr. Ida Rolf.  In the earlier years especially- this was my main niche.  However, as I continued to learn and grow, I gravitated more towards Craniosacral Therapy as my main modality of work.  More and more I took this approach of listening vs. being assertive in a 10 session series  However, I have also learned to blend these two approaches, along with using Visceral Manipulation, Energy healing, and Somatic Therapy together.

I still look at the body from an SI Approach, and often work through the layers of fascia.

If you often feel like your body is not quite aligned, like you’re living in a system of compensations, or you’d like to feel more “put together” internally — structurally, functionally, even energetically — then a Structural Integration perspective might offer a profound and lasting shift. By working with the fascia, the body’s invisible web of connective tissue — you’re not just treating symptoms: you’re re-organising how your body holds itself, moves, and feels. That kind of internal organizing can lead to more ease, more presence, more integration.  Mixed in with the Craniosacral Therapy, the work is more gentle, yet deeper and more effective with helping the nervous system.

At Lighten Up Therapies, my intention is to always work with the whole person.
