Common Concussion Symptoms — and When to Get Help
From a Craniosacral Therapist in Worthington, Serving Columbus
Concussion symptoms are serious business. A concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury, and no blow to the head should be ignored. If after any impact you find yourself forgetful, sensitive to light, dizzy, seeing blurry, confused, nauseous, clumsy, moody, dealing with headaches, or having trouble following instructions, get checked out by a physician. Symptoms don’t always show up right away, so pay attention to how you feel for at least a few days. If you lost consciousness, even briefly, proper medical care is essential for your long-term health.
Your doctor will usually tell you to take it easy. That’s good advice — the brain needs time and energy to heal, and with real rest most concussions do resolve. But if weeks go by and you still can’t concentrate, still feel “off,” or still get irritable with headaches, it may be time to add gentle hands-on support to your recovery.
How Craniosacral Therapy Helps After a Concussion
I’ve had a few concussions myself, and besides rest, craniosacral therapy is what helped me most. Here’s how it works: as a craniosacral therapist, I work directly with the cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord. That fluid protects the brain, nourishes it, and carries away toxins. A concussion disrupts that whole system. With very light touch, I listen to and meld with the deeper, healthy currents of the craniosacral system to restore better symmetry, a healthier rate, and stronger quality and amplitude to the rhythm. After my own bumps to the head, this work is what brought me back to feeling balanced, clear, and able to manage my life normally.
My training is through the Upledger Institute, where I earned Diplomate certification — the highest level available. If you’d like to read about the research the Institute is doing on craniosacral therapy for post-concussion syndrome, this article is a good place to start.
If you’re still struggling after a concussion, don’t wait. You deserve to live a good life.
