Myofascial Release Can Help You Feel Alive!

Myofascial Release Can Help You Feel Alive!

Myofascial Release has helped many of my clients to feel revitalized and more alive!

Yes, those membranes that contain, wrap around and support all the material in the human body are key in helping you to let go of dysfunctional patterns that keep your energy limited.

Myofascial Release is a holistic treatment that focuses on finding those tight restrictive areas of the body that keep pain internalized.  By listening with our hands, fascial therapists can find those difficult places in the more superficial outer layers to deep inside at the core.  By focusing on improving posture through releasing the fascia, the body can relax and find optimal efficiency in fluidity of movement.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release

When you feel better in your body, everything in your life changes.  Your outlook brightens and the way that you interact with your world feels more positive.
Some of the symptoms that have been relieved through fascial work are:
  • Headaches and Migraines
  • Neck and Back Pain
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Menstrual Pain
  • Pelvic Floor Tightness
  • Sports Injuries
  • Jaw Pain
  • Scoliosis
  • Neurological Disorders
  • Chronic Fatigue
  • TMJ and other Jaw Pain
  • Carpel Tunnel
  • Bad Posture

Myofascial Work can be approached with light touch to a deeper more penetrating contact.  It’s up to the Myofascial Therapist to dialogue with clients to find out what level of pressure best suits the session.  Sometimes as a physical restriction is addressed, the response can be painful even with only 5 grams of pressure.  So make sure that you communicate what your level of feeling into sensation is to your therapist.  Because if you tighten up in reaction, that is counter-productive. The best work is all about Myofascial Release.

What is so great about Myofascial Release is that once the restriction dissolves, it’s gone.  Yet other layers must be addressed if you want a whole body approach to healing.  It’s best to talk to your Therapist about a series of sessions to unwind or help the body let go of tension patterns.  It often takes years or a trauma to bring the body out of balance.  Patience, feeling with awareness and letting go can change your life if you give it a chance!

Dr. Andrew Weil in Natural Awakenings

Dr. Andrew Weil in Natural Awakenings

Dr. Andrew Weil has been a huge influence in bringing attention to Integrative Medicine in the US.

Recently I was reading the October 2014 Natural Awakening magazine, and he was asked, “What influence can the public have in supporting a shift” ?

Personally,  I have been sitting with this question myself for quite a while.  The allopathic part of medicine is so helpful and supportive in some ways, but sorely missing in regards to the connection to humanity as whole beings. It feels like one goes to a physician and is slotted a 15 minute appointment, and on to the next patient.  Insurance companies don’t compensate doctors for listening to a complete history for an hour. Not to mention- have you noticed how medications are handed out a lot easier than a prescription for massage or acupuncture. They are covered by insurance easier, that’s for sure. I am not pointing my finger at physicians, as they are having to fit into something that only partially works. What I am suggesting is that the system needs to be restructured.

For me, it is nice to hear a medical doctor interested in changing the healthcare system.  However, change is not going to have to be only coming from people like him.  It’s up to us as patients, but more fundamentally as full human beings to create this shift.

Dr. Weil wrote, “Our dysfunction healthcare system is generating rivers of money flowing into very few pockets.  Those are the pockets of big pharmaceutical companies, medical devices manufactures and big insurers;interests that control legislators.  So, I don’t think any real change is going to come from the government.”

Integrative Medicine

If you would like to see changes,  I’d invite you to research alternative and integrative therapies.  Help make connections between these fields and western medicine.  We need rainbow bridges to help bring the best qualities of all the various health protocols together.  This requires a grassroots movement. I don’t always agree with all of Dr. Weil’s assessments on all things, but he does have a clear vision in bringing this about. We need to all put away the need for there only being one method to heal…instead let’s come together to create a new system that addresses holism and quality of life.

Right now, we have more people living longer, less doctors to meet their needs.  Let’s work together and write to our government, but more than that… get involved and support the wellness programs that help you feel healthier and happier.  Find out more about physicians who believe in integrative and functional medicine. You deserve that!

Structural Integration:Deeper into the Body

Structural Integration:Deeper into the Body

Structural Integration by Ida Rolf,  is not the most mild type of bodywork.

 It’s not meant to be…

Growth

Evolution

The ten sessions are intended to help clients to find better alignment in relationship to gravity.  Not only in standing or quiet poses, but also in movement. The idea is to help people find more fluidity, flexibility and range of motion through effective touch and thorough manipulation.

One thing that is important to address, is that this type of work often gets labeled as being uncomfortable. With Ida Rolf’s work-  in most cases, as pain is sometimes encountered and touched, clients will feel things that have been avoided.  It’s natural for people to compensate when they have injuries or emotional patterns holding them out of alignment. As such, as things open, deeper sensations do occur. However, if a professional and respectful dialogue is kept, the session can weather the storm with proper care and efficient contact. With healthy touch, the work can go slowly at the client’s rate and comfort level. During and after the sessions, clients will often be surprised at how they can feel grounded into their bodies and the earth both energetically and physically in a whole new way.

One of the biggest considerations when deciding if Structural Integration is right for you, is to ask yourself if you are looking for a pleasurable massage session or a more long-term and holistic approach.  Some clients enjoy light touch effleurage massage.  It can feel warm, invigorating and healing.  On the opposite side of the spectrum though, the Ida Rolf Structural Integration type of work focuses on the ability to work deeper without working harder.  A good Structural Integration Therapist will apply pressure to touch into the different levels of the fascial web to help you unwind and lengthen dysfunctional patterns. The fascia softens and hydrates allowing time to awaken and integrate.

Without question, at Lighten Up Therapies, our goal is to help you to achieve your goals for your health and wellbeing.
