Massage Therapy is a healing art that integrates the talents of a massage therapist, including excellent listening, a compassionate heart and an ability to transmit what is needed to support the client for the highest good. An experienced massage therapist will have many years under her/his belt with a unique set of hands-on techniques learned to treat what your body needs. Included in our training, we adhere to a strict code of ethics that respects and honors our clients and their requests. If you have questions about this, please refer to: https://www.amtamassage.org/index.html .
In Columbus, Ohio, there is a Licensed Massage Therapist who fits the above criteria. Sharon Hartnett LMT has a background in Structural Integration, is an Advanced Certified Craniosacral Therapist, taught at the Barbara Brennan School of Healing, graduated from the Hakomi Institute and has a professional and integrated practice after 15 years in this field of health.
Sharon’s work is focused on relieving pain and helping clients to move into a more healthy and well lifestyle. Because of her training with https://www.sensorimotorpsychotherapy.org she has also chosen to work with clients who have experienced trauma and has found no help elsewhere. By approaching life through the mind body spirit connection, old fears and pain can dissolve, freeing up the client to create a healthier and more joyful life. Life can be approached from a gentler light touch or from stronger and deeper touch that meets the client in the current state. Through listening and dialogue, the job is to connect and release the body from pain and tension, to open the connection to essence and wisdom.

Many clients have a hard time understanding Sciatic Pain.
What they do know is that they are experiencing symptoms like: possible lower back pain, pain that shoots down one side of the leg- possibly all the way to the foot, aggravated pain when standing or sitting, and possible nerve effects such as numbness or tingling.
Often this pain is the result of a disk problem. So the best thing to do when pain continues is to see your physician and find out the “root” issue so to speak. Hopefully, an integrative doctor will send you to a spine specialist, and have some referrals for some excellent massage therapists and bodyworkers in your local area. An integrative approach will often be more helpful because each individual is organized uniquely and it often takes an individualized plan to help restore corrective posture and movement to bring health back to the lower lumbars and sacral area.

An Integrative Approach
What I have found helpful with the combinations available to clients is a unique plan to practice movement such as Feldenkrais or Continuum, checking in with an experienced chiropractor, and a focus on correcting posture through Structural Integration and Craniosacral. Because the fascia contains all the cells, tissue, organs and living materials in the body, it is responsible for helping to keep a body nourished and well dialoguing for health and wellness. When the connective tissue fascia adheres, dehydrates, and stiffens, fluids and other nutrients can’t reach their destination. The flow of life diminishes in that area. People end up with bulging and herniated disks from wear and tear or imbalances that were not recognized and treated earlier.
Take charge of your self care plan. Sciatic Pain is not something to take lightly. It is possible to resolve by itself through hot/cold treatments, but is likely to show up again without making some real change in the body. Sharon Hartnett LMT has seen some very positive changes where people shift into a pain free life with myofascial massage and bodywork. SomatoEmotional Release is based on the concept that the whole body and everything within down to the cellular level has both independent and integrated consciousness. Dr. John Upledger developed this therapeutic system of Craniosacral Therapy to support clients to release obstructive emotional energies from the unconscious mind to the conscious through listening and body dialoguing. The true benefit of this work is that is is designed to release your body of the residual effects of previous injuries and difficult experiences, leaving you feeling more healthy, vital and alive.
As a licensed Massage Therapist and Bodyworker for over 17 years, I have observed more than a few clients who have benefited from SomatoEmotional Release. These people often come in with pain, or challenges in everyday life, unable to identify the Source for healing. As the Craniosacral Sessions begins, what often happens with SER is that an old emotional energy begins to arise to be felt and processed. Feelings of sadness, fear or such will move and images or sensations may be awakened. Things that were stuck or internalized reach for the light so to speak to be felt, witnessed and observed for release. SomatoEmotional Release is facilitated by therapists trained in touch to tune into what your Inner Physician would like to do to help you move through into a clearer mind body spirit connection. On a physical level, the therapist will feel the tissues begin to relax and expand. The stress of the memory dissolves and a new outlook perhaps without words can be experienced.

Are you feeling Stuck?
It’s important to know: While we are not licensed psychotherapists, Upledger therapists are trained to support the client’s own process to unfold without interference. In a session, we often witness traumas ranging from pent up angry feelings from a divorce to cases of rape and PTSD in soldiers. As the body begins to release this old energy, clients find more insight into their life dynamics, metabolize their feelings easier and can make healthier choices on how to move forward in their lives. SER work can feel very freeing, integrating and joyful.

Lower Back Dysfunction can cause back pain and suffering.
How many things have you tried to find resolution to your pain?

Relieve Pain Symptoms
If you really want to feel better, it’s important to look long-term and holistically. I know that people want to find a quick fix- but that usually is not the best approach to healing. I also know it is easier for most people to go to the doctor and only get prescriptions to relieve pain- but maybe there is a better way that will truly address your real issue.
Engaging in an integrative program will help you to get to the core of the problem to restore better health and function.
Is your life worth feeling well?
Let’s begin with the obvious. Pain is the body’s way of saying, “something is wrong and I am out of balance.”
In particular, when the back is hurting- most likely there is some type of lesion interrupting the flow needed to nourish and support the spine and all the related organs in that area. When the tissues lose their nutrients, the connective tissue tends to dry out and get lumpy or adhered. The spinal cord which is composed of the vertebral bodies and paired sensory and motor nerves that are associated can become hyper-sensitive, hypertrophic, and hyper-irritable. Voila- a triggered nervous system igniting the sympathetic system with constant bombardment.
So what does this mean for you?
If you want to to find not only long term relief from back pain, but want to take it a step further to truly moving easier and feeling more vital and alive, it takes a commitment to make changes in your life. Speak to your doctor and come up with an all encompassing health plan. This means exercise, diet and finding a healing team to support you. Working with the fascia and the nervous system is one of the best things you can do to yourself to reverse misalignment issues. By engaging in a 10 series of Structural Integration with Craniosacral Therapy, you can optimize your posture and dis-impact/decompress bones that are causing dysfunctions. Normalizing and releasing adhesions and lesion patterns will bring back your line and feelings of relaxation. As the connective tissue softens and hydrates, you will find yourself feeling more space and opening throughout your whole body.
We all want to feel our best. The challenge is whether you want to stand behind the choice of wellness. In most cases, unless there has been a recent accident, it takes years for pain to become unbearable. Give yourself some time and the care you need to turn things around. Miracles can happen, but be in the process of healing and the wisdom of your body will show you the way.

Today was the first day of the four day class for Upledger Craniosacral Therapy 2 in Columbus, Ohio 2014.
I really enjoy these opportunities to get involved in bringing this great work to my community.
Every chance I get to Teacher Assist, I jump on it. I always learn something new by hearing the material in a new way, or through interactive experience. Students ask great questions, and their enthusiasm to fine-tune their skills is exciting and inviting. By the end of these courses, many restrictions are removed from the dural tube and the rest of the Craniosacral System which always causes a stir of exciting from the huge shifts in function and sensation. The participants light up and renew their enthusiasm for the work.
The Institute also seems to be revamping it curriculum in my opinion based on feedbacks from students. The techniques seem easier to comprehend, and I already know how beneficial this work is. Now it’s even easier to learn and put into action. Students are anxious to join new study groups and to work towards Certification to increase their skill and ability to help their clients.
My favorite thing about Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is that the touch is so light, yet it is able to help the whole body communicate more efficiently to improve functionality as a whole. CST balances the entire body and revitalizes, restores the resting ability of the parasympathetic system, and encourages flow along the spine and related fascial segments.

Craniosacral Therapy
One example is that although one would think that the Cranium is the main place of dysfunction for TMJ , indeed it can’t be corrected unless the sacrum and pelvis are balanced. One thing we talked about today was that if a person appears to have one leg longer than the other, the ilea is probably jetted forward which affects the pelvic area and can cause a twist over to the other parietal bone. The point being in layman terms- is that this can lead to rotations in the cranium which cause TMJ. In this instance, the fascial planes, spine, and cranium must all be treated to bring about effective positive change.
I’ll keep you updated on the rest of the class… Loving Craniosacral! Upledger
Warmly,

I have seen Dr. Oz on the news quite a bit lately.
Not sure that I would buy many of the products that Dr. Oz talks about, but I do like that he is open minded and educates the American public about natural remedies as well as conventional medicine.
From my understanding, he does not endorse these products, but rather discusses them. He has clearly said that if products put his name on them, that is done without his approval.
Personally, while I appreciate pharmaceuticals when needed, we do need more doctors who are not invested in profits/companies who care about people understanding options rather than being only out for themselves. Thank you Dr. Oz for putting the information out and allowing us to decide for ourselves.
