Listening with Craniosacral Therapy

Listening with Craniosacral Therapy

In Daily life,  most people stay busy, and it’s easy to become distracted.

One of the best things that I like best about Craniosacral Therapy, is that it creates a sacred space for silence.  During a session, clients lay on a table fully clothed, close their eyes, and relax.  Stress is let go. In the quiet of the moment, many layers of consciousness have the time and ability to arise and be expressed.  For many people, this means that they have a unique opportunity to be mindful, introspective and have an experiential of unfolding.  Wonderful healing can take place, along with integration and growth.

I believe that this state of Grace in awakening is always available to us, however; it’s easy to miss due all the things we schedule or how we decide to live.  It is in our best interest to balance action with receiving,  thereby giving us the chance to live in “Being”.

As a Certified Craniosacral Therapist,  my priority is to align with “listening” and help my clients to find their Inner Physician through resonance.  What this means is that I focus on the CST rhythm primarily as it allows me to emphasize around the brain and spinal cord and how they relate to the rest of the body.  By supporting balance, strength, rate and symmetry, the client optimizes through inner dialogue in the moment.  In many instances, one can feel this as the therapeutic pulse picks up and sounds its healing potential.  In other cases, tissues release and energy is flows or an electrical buzz travels under the fingers.  In addition to the CSR (Craniosacral Rhythm), there are so many other things going on that intuition can lead me towards-the beating of the heart, the way the body moves with each inhale and exhale,  the sound that loudens or softens as the body changes,  all of these have a voice that the wisdom of the body is ready to reveal.  By using the fascia and the bones as my prime manual tools,  change is encouraged and a sense of wellbeing is the end result.

Another reason why I recommend Craniosacral Therapy to many people is that it is very gentle.  This type of hands on therapy can be used during pregnancy, right after birth to seniors with sensitive skin and/or health issues.  We use about a nickels worth of pressure until the tissue takes us deeper.  No forcing or tough manipulating.  Yet believe it or not-  profound change can occur through this quiet listening and supporting through the craniosacral system.

If you are needing some help with energizing, or quieting CST is quite helpful.  If you are in pain- helping restrictions or adhesions to dissolve opens the pathways to healthier dialogue.  The body is a whole being and awakening it to its possibilities is exciting as it brings one back to center and wellness.

Connection through Massage

Connection through Massage

Why do people feel so great after Massage?

In my opinion, it all boils down to connection.

Touch is such a key component to our health.  It really is fundamental to life and happiness.  So are we getting enough of it?
Increasingly, people are looking outside of their normal daily lives to find this type of connection in a safe and healing environment. Approximately 35 million Americans have found their way to massage.

The depth of Touch type of Therapies can go way beyond releasing physical pain and discomfort.

Massage Therapy can support a person when compassionate and invigorating contact is absent from life.  I think in this day and age,  many people have forgotten what it is like to hug, to hold hands or just to reach out a reassuring hand.  With this type of connection missing- it’s easy to become isolated, to ignite feelings of frustration, fear, and anger.  It’s easier to stay in conflict with a family member, friend or associate when touch is not involved. The intimacy of safe touch is literally sorely missed when absent in relationships.

Massage Therapy can help relax the body, the mind and spirit.  When appropriate and intentional contact happens, it’s amazing how much better one can feel.  The blueprint of your genetic expression can actually alter toward wellbeing.

There is nothing better than feeling relaxed, fluid and energized at the same time.

Craniosacral for Migraines? By Sharon Hartnett

Craniosacral for Migraines? By Sharon Hartnett

Over 25 million Americans suffer from migraine headaches.

How do these people function in their daily lives with debilitating pain?  What happens in their jobs, their home lives and their social lives?

It’s a Challenge!

Migraines can feel like throbbing pain.  People often express a sensitivity to light, sounds and other stimuli. They can experience auras and feel numbness in the body.  They can become nauseous and unable to do much of anything.

So what can help relieve Migraine Headaches?

Current research has found that dilation and constriction of blood vessels in the brain is the main culprit in causing migraine headaches and reactions.  Also, women can experience migraines after the onset of her first menstruation with its fluctuations of hormones.  Doctors have not been able to find a sure cure for migraines, but they have come up with an integrative approach to treat and diminish symptoms.  Some of the things you can do:

  • Keep a journal of foods and other triggers when the migraine comes on.

  • Share information with your physician.

  • Medications may helpful before and after.

  • Preventative herbs have been found to reduce occurrences.  Speak with a professional.

  • Complementary service such as Craniosacral Therapy, Acupuncture or hypnotherapy.

  • Aromatherapy

  • Lifestyle Changes

  • Finding ways to quiet stress such as mediation.

A Craniosacral Approach to Migraines

While migraines are still somewhat puzzling to the medical community, the Craniosacral approach has found some success, especially when used in combination with the above.  The reason why Craniosacral can be helpful is because it is focused on the brain, spine  and surrounding membranes.  The intention is to reduce stress and to relieve any nerve compression or break in nerve conductivity found along the spine and the brain.  The Craniosacral Therapist monitors the cerebrospinal fluid movements and takes corrective measure to help the body to self- adjust in a gentle and balanced manner.  While there are no boney adjustments, when symmetry and amplitude are improved in movement occurs, it is possible too that nerves and blood vessels can be released from restrictive patterns. Flow and internal dialogue can shift things dramatically.

Because there is no sure cure for migraines,  it is best to go on a journey of self-discovery of what works best for you.  With the Craniosacral work, it could take one to ten sessions to find if this is the treatment for you.

Sharing the Work of Dr. Barbara Brennan, by Sharon Hartnett LMT

Sharing the Work of Dr. Barbara Brennan, by Sharon Hartnett LMT

Over the last few decades, Dr. Barbara Brennan has seen her healing techniques and teachings spread across the globe, touching the lives of many students, clients, and people who have attended her school and/or studied her books, “Hands of Light” and Light Emerging”.

Her four year program at the Barbara Brennan School of Healing” has continued to provide a sanctuary for people from all aspects of life in which to learn about healing and how their personal healership can support positive change in the world. There is no other setting quite like this school that can offer such a profound sense of community, bent in service to the Higher Purpose of Life.  BBSH is a unique container of intentional movement toward the evolution of the human Spirit.

Barbara Brennan Hands of Light

As a graduate of the school, I’d like to share some of my insights into the many benefits of attending this school:

A little bit about the school from a graduate’s perspective: The school is based on a four year curriculum, planned out to promote self awareness and energy transformation. In the most simple terms, the first year is very gentle and explorative in a nurturing sense.  It is an opportunity to gain better understanding of Self, and how our Human Energy Field operates. As one approaches the second a year, a different template of energy is held to deepen into our whole sense of Self by further exploring our dualistic beliefs, wounding, defense systems and how we create conflict and resolve issues in our relationships. In my opinion, this year often opens us up to aspects of self where we dared not look in a long time. However, as we learn to listen to our Higher Selves, we gain insights from our darkness, and the light begins to shine brighter and brighter revealing our true natures. The third year takes us on another turn.  This year challenges us to examine our relationship with God.  Often authority issues are revealed and our limited thinking is dropped to open us to be more closely aligned with the Divine Mind. One learns to restructure chakras, to hold the 5th level of the energy field and so much more. Finally, when one enters the fourth and last year, the students take the time to write a research project and present a Case Study. This last year pulls the work together through working with the intention of Hara and rediscovering the Core Star connection we each have to the Divine.

To enter this portal of deep transformation and change, one has to be very committed. One has to learn to trust that by letting go of our old paradigms, that new wisdom and light will lead the way through our darkest trials. Students learn to recognize their strategies and defenses that no longer serve. With all pretenses dropping away, we have learned to become transparent and reconnected to the Whole. Even after graduation, we continue to question and explore in the dance of the Light , opening our hearts and our minds.

Most people who graduate, take the work they have learned from Barbara Brennan, her teachers and community out into their regular daily lives. But something integral to our way of Being has shifted. As we continue to use the skills, we weave our insights and essence into everything around us. We wake up to Source in everything we see with fresh eyes.  Blocks that once held us frozen still dissolve easily, and the passage of life is easier to transverse.

I am not going to say that going the Barbara Brennan School of Healing is an easy journey. But it is a journey worth taking. The curriculum and support that show up at the school will help to heal your deepest wound.  It will help you to navigate through life with more ease and grace. It will loosen your ties to the past and free you up to live more fully with Presence in the Moment.

Dr. Barbara Brennan dedicated her life to teaching and sharing her work. The Template of study and experience will dramatically change how you view life no matter how you look at it.  If you are wanting to discover your True Essence, this is the place to start.  If you want to look toward doing healing work with others out in the world, this school will give you the tools and Presence. Open up to your deepest longing and allow this community to support you in rediscovering your potential and True Self.  Your beliefs are not you. You are so much more than you ever imagined yourself to be.
