How to Find Relief for Concussion Symptoms

Common Concussion Symptoms

Working with a Craniosacral Therapist Columbus

Concussion symptoms are serious business.  A concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury. Any strike to the head should not be ignored. Especially if you find yourself being forgetful, sensitive to light, dizzy, experiencing blurry vision, confused, experiencing headaches, nauseous, clumpsy, moody, or having difficulties following instructions after any impact to the head, make sure you get checked out by a physician.  Symptoms may or may not appear immediately, so be mindful about your state of being for at least a few days. Especially if you lose consciousness, it is imperitive to your long-term health to receive proper care.

Healthcare providers will usually recommend that you take it easy after a brain injury. The brain needs time to resource its energy to heal. Usually with lots of rest, the brain can recover. However if you continue to have difficulties concentrating, feel off, or feel irritable with headaches, you may want to check in with a Craniosacral Therapist.

Having experienced a few concussions myself, I have found that besides rest, Craniosacral Therapy has helped me the best. How this works is that a Craniosacral Therapist. will directly work with the cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds the brain and the spine. Why this fluid is so important is that it protects, helps nourish and moves out toxins.  A concussion or a Traumatic Brain Injury will disrupt function.  Craniosacral Therapy listens and melds with the deeper healthy currents of the Craniosacral System to bring better symmetry, a healthier rate, optimal quality and amplitude to the rhythm.  After a numerous bumps to my head, the Craniosacral Work has helped me to feel more balance, more clear and able to manage my life normally.

My training is with the Upledger Institute

Remind Me How to Heal From a Concussion

Remind Me How to Heal From a Concussion

    Concussion Relief

Today I am sharing about my own experience with a concussion.  About 10 years ago, I fell badly, and landed on the left side of my head and body. Immediately an ambulance was called, and I went to the “Emergency” room at the hospital.

They checked me out. Sent me home.  Problem was I was NOT ok.  The concussion symptoms creeped in later. For about a month, I laid in bed.  Not able to watch TV, read, go out into the light.  I felt light headed and my mind wasn’t clear.  The FOG.  For those of you who have experienced the same thing, you know what I mean.  There is nothing to do but just wait it out.

Eventually my health improved.  Enough so that I flew down to the Upledger Institute to receive treatment.  The Therapist was good, but honestly- I felt little difference.  When the brain gets jostled around it takes time to heal, and many Craniosacral Sessions to just find balance again.   Now, for each person this is a unique path.  We must each find the right dose of the best remedies for ourselves. So I don’t want to lie here and say there is a magic pill.  It’s a journey.  Craniosacral Therapy helped me tremendously over the years.

However, I did find top notch Craniosacral Therapists across the States, and I committed to my health and wellbeing. Finally,  the headaches slipped away, and slowly but surely I did get better.  Also, because I am an advanced Craniosacral Therapist, I practiced the technques on myself almost daily.  Admittedly this was a challenging trauma, and I have never come back to 100 percent.  However, I do feel much better.  My life goes on and nobody would even realized that I am still on the mend all these years later. But hey, life is good and I bow down deep in gratitude to Dr. John Upledger’s Work.

Now,  I suppose because I have gone through so much with my concussion and brain injury, I have become specialized in helping and supporting those with similar issues.  Sometimes our greatest wounds or hurts make us super detailed and well tuned in to the gift of helping others to heal similar patterns.

So many people have not heard about Craniosacral Therapy, but it is what has helped me the most.  That and fish oils and other supplement.  My re-dedication to the Upledger work was based on the relief I found from the original concussion sypmtoms.  I have been a Craniosacral Therapist since 2003, but now this work is my life passion.

If you are suffering from a concussion or a traumatic brain injury, check out the Upledger site.  Find someone near you to join you on the path to recovery.   When a Craniosacral Therapist works with you, they are listening to your Inner Physician (IP).  The IP takes the new information in and allows the deeper intelligence to heal you.  The therapist is the reminder that possibilities do exist to bring you back to Wholeness.

Warmly,

As a Craniosacral Therapist, there have been times when I have worked with a person for 5 minutes and a 7 year old headache finally disappeared.  This isn’t always the case, but motion and nourishment can and often shift you right out of pain.

Quite often, clients who come in once a month after initial sessions end up feeling pain free.  It’s all about the fluids, the softness and giving the head and neck the ability to stay connected to the body.

Chronic Pain: A Treatment Which Could Change Your Life

Chronic Pain: A Treatment Which Could Change Your Life

Are You Suffering from Chronic Pain?

Chronic Pain is a persistent state  When pain lasts longer than 3 months it’s considered chronic pain.

Chronic Pain shows up in the body in people dealing with; arthritis, cancer & its’ treatments, headaches & migraines, nerve damage, lyme desease, people surviving traumas,  and fibroymalgia.  The list goes on.

I had had clients go to their doctors and the best thing that is offered are medications.  While medication has it’s place and can be helpful, there is also an integrative approach that can be more holistic. Looking at the whole person is key to helping people deal with chronic pain on a daily basis.  Having a healing team to support is vital.

As a Craniosacral Therapist, what we offer is a “Listening” to the Body’s Craniosacral System.  There are rhtyms and pulses that we feel.  Our hands are directed toward toward the key essence places in the essence of your nervous system.  To me, it feels like everyone has a deep well of resource inside that knows how to get the body feeling better.  All it needs is a nudge.  The body knows what to do next.

My job as a Craniosacral Therapist is to support and help your own healing abilities to bring about self-correction and self-healing. Your body on some level has chosen to go awry.  And it also needs to learn to return back to health the best it can in order for you to feel better in your body.

When the internal environment of your body is functioning better through manual work, if opens a window.  But also we must look at other things like life style, nutrition and the external environment in which you live too.  How is your mental state?  Because often people feeling chornic pain are anxious and live in depression.

I really wished we had a health care system that looked at the whole person.  We deserve a better model to really see us and acknowledge our pain.  But even more importantly, we need a team of people to help us to optimize our own inner resources to turn things around.  Begin where you can.

I will say, as being one part of the cogency, that I do see improvement in people who come to see me quite reqularly.  With the somatoemotional support they are experiencing their connection to the whole more fully.  They can feel this mentally, emotioanlly and also physically.

While Chronic Pain is a continuing set of symptoms. Craniosacral Therapy can enhance a person’s wellbeing.  Get support.  It can change your life!

Treating Concussions with Craniosacral Therapy

Treating Concussions with Craniosacral Therapy

Who Gets Head Injuries?

Did you know that there are an estimated few million sports concussions and brain injuries each year? Many of those are young athletic children who hit their heads during their daily sports activities. Likewise, there are also many more people who hit their heads while involved in exercise, car accidents, falling off roofs, bikes, and also those who experience such mishaps as slipping on ice or tripping on a sidewalk. The symptoms of a concussion may not feel apparent at the onset of a fall, but these head injuries can often negatively affect the functioning of the brain. It’s important to keep an eye for any indications of a concussion after any forceful head impact. Even more critical is that you take good care of yourself until you heal and follow your doctor’s advice.

My Clients:

These are the types of people with whom I work. Many of my clients who have come in to see me have been in an accident. I’d say about half of them have experienced some type concussion signs. Some also find themselves in chronic pain. While most people do recover pretty well from concussions, there are those who do not. Some of the unresolved issues I have worked with are: confusion, blurry vision, headaches, imbalances, difficulties with concentration, fatigue, and sensitivities to light. Sometimes for months, and even years- my clients had not found any type of relief. Often Craniosacral Therapy is their last stop.

Heal Your Brain

Upledger Institute

Brain Concussions and Trauma can become a huge disturbance in your life. I have worked with people who have had to quit their jobs and those who have been “let go”, only because there was no cure to pain and disorientation in their head. But rest assured, there is help. One of the places that encouraged me to become specialized in head trauma is the Upledger Institute. They have been doing Comprehensive Intensives with professional athletes at their clinic in Florida. The results of their work and reviews by clients have demonstrated time and time again that the brain can be helped to become better organized biomechanically and supported to self-heal. On a personal note, as I have attended a few 5 day intensives with the Institute both as a support and primary therapist, I have seen what seemed like miracles happen with many clients many time over. Observing improvements like that influenced me to go ahead and receive my Diplomate level expertise to treat just as effectively to bring out optimal health. Over the years, I have seen quite a few people walk out of my office happier and healthier people. They re-discover how to function more clearly in life again. A series of sessions can the symptoms disappear resolve and disappear.

How Brain Work Works

I have been doing massage therapy and bodywork for about 20 years, but the Brain Work that I have learned at the Upledger Institute has given me the tools I need to support my clients Inner Wisdom. During a session with a client who has experienced a concussion, I am often led to dialogue with different parts of the brain, while keeping a holistic picture approach. This can be done quietly biomechanically, but at other times, the client will speak and share his/her experience from this internal environment. The intelligence of the body leads him/her back to health and wellbeing like nothing I have seen before.

What I love about being a Craniosacral Therapist is that the work is so gentle, and it listens to the wisdom of the body to direct the session. All of the facilitation leads you back to the Inner Guidance inside of you leading the session toward your health. The results have been profound as the work releases unhealthy restrictions, and promotes more fluid flow and motion. I am the facilitator who uses learned techniques to treat, but the body and the essence of the person is what heals.

Self Care

If you have hit your head, or someone in your family has, please go see a physician and get yourself diagnosed and treated. It’s important that you focus on self-care. I will say, I have had personal experiences with concussion too. The worst trauma I felt was after I fell off my horse and hit my head. I rested for a month and could hardly do anything. No television. No computer. No reading. Just quiet rest. However, once I could travel, I went straight to the Upledger Institute and put myself in the hands of Craniosacral Therapy. I also found a local therapist here in Columbus too who helped me. I recovered. Ever since, I have made Concussion work my primary focus in my work serving clients.

Free Telephone Consultation If you have been diagnosed with a medical condition or are having questions after talking to your physician, please call me. I offer a free 10 minute phone consultation. Whether you come here, or need assistance to find a therapist near you, I am glad to help. My phone number is 703 509-1792. I enjoy working with people who are ready to turn the tide back to health and wellbeing.
