How to Develop a Good Plan for Stress Management

Who needs stress?

Well, stress can be beneficial.  It can help your performance in any part of your life if it is used in a positive way. However, chronic stress is a different matter. Long-term stress can be a major contributor to numerous health problems.

Fortunately, there are some tools that you can learn to help you stay healthy in your mind and body connection. Addressing stress as soon as possible can significantly shift your mindset. An intentional practice of committing to self-care can help avoid or minimize anxiety, depression, cardiovascular diseases and chronic pain.

If you haven’t already come up with a plan for stress managment, here are a few ideas:

  1. Mindfulness, prayer and meditation can help reduce cortisol levels and bring one to center. This is a practice of becoming fully aware in the moment through experience and observation.  Curiousity also helps set the stage for discovering inner peace.
  2. Holistic and Complementary practices like Craniosacral Therapy, Visceral Manipulation, Acupuncture have shown to be very helpful with stress management.
  3. Breathing Exercises can shift you more into a calm state.  One that I recommend is breathing in to a slow count of 4, exhale to 6 and pause. In your practice continue to lengthen the pause at the end of the exhale. Also, practice diaphragmatic breathing, imagining your breath filling the whole ribcage as it expands and contracts. Allow the breath to move all the way to the pelvic floor.
  4. Check with your physician about the Role of Nutrition:  omega 3, magnesium and certaine B vitamins support brain health, and help to regulate emotions.
  5. Sleep.  It’s so important to get enough rest.  When you sleep well your brain is able to clear through the glymphatic system.  This can help you to feel much better restored, and to heal.  A good sleep routine is imperative to good health.

Being in a Healing Practice for close to 30 years, I have seen so many people with chronic stress.I want you to know that it’s possible to step away from that. However, it does mean making a choice to change your life.  Your power comes in the form of doing things that bring you back to your balanced and healthy Self.

    Remembering Your Life Purpose: Craniosacral Therapy

    Find Your Life Purpose

    Looking for a way to find a meaningful purpose in your life?  Before you can set your intention and organize, you have to figure out your passion!  Here are three things to consider which can help you deepen into clarity:

    1.  Ask yourself what brought you joy when your were little?  Not necessarily your best talents, but instead-the things that brought a smile to your face.  On a soul level, right from the start we know what lights us up.  Until maybe someone perhaps tried to steer you off course based on their point of view. Take some time to meditate and remember who You are.  You were born with an internal roadmap for self-discovery and purpose. Now you need to discard anything that stops you from knowing your true Self.

    2.  Craniosacral Therapy can help. Often in life, we get distracted with all the other paths put before us. We are told many stories, and pulled in so many directions. Sometimes, we forget what matters most to us. Reconnect to Yourself.

    If you want to get grounded and feel more embodied, one helpful option is receiving Craniosacral Therapy. Many clients who come into my practice are stressed. Often I see people who are neurodivergent thinkers. Some are feeling lost, living with constant anxiety, and feeling stuck in learned limited belief systems which can rev up the nervous system.     3.  Gather resources and take action.  How you decide to live in your passion is up to you.  It doesn’t have to look like anyone else. Your uniqueness and special creativity is meant for you to fly. It’s all about getting aligned with your energy to build the life that brings meaning and purpose to your soul.  Life is too short to live any other way.

    Through life, we go through many different transitions. Being mildful and in healthy relationships brings ease as we move from one experience into another..Especially when your relationship to yourself is strong, clear and unfolding in a way that awakens your true longing.

    Grounding:  Move Effortlessly with Grace

    Move Effortlessly. It’s easy to escape the moment. To not be fully present. The mind easily wanders into the past with regrets and guilt. Undoubtably it moves forward with worry and anticipation as well. This is to be human.

    However, what if there is a way to engage with life more deeply and fully?

    I was reading FB today and came across a beautiful post about grounding.  I feel it’s so important to connect to the earth.  She supports us and nourishes us continuously.  We are made of the earth, and she lives within all that we are.  So I am including this writing by “Lowen”  to share here.  Let go of your burdens my friends…  Discover Your Human Body.

    Lowen is credited with coining the word “grounding” in the physiological and psychological sense and emphasizing it’s importance in human development. I believe it has now become a term widely understood (if not precisely understood) in the broader pop culture.

    “Once he is grounded, a person no longer holds himself up but allows the ground to support him. By coming down to earth, he finds that his blood pressure also drops. But effecting that kind of change requires a commitment to the body and to a way of life that respects the body and it’s needs.

     

    Unfortunately, our culture is moving away from the body as the source of feeling and spirituality. Our fitness programs are not designed to enhance the sensitivity of the body but to hone it as if it were a machine. In so doing, they produce people who are fit only to run the race of life. I suppose that if reaching the top is one’s goal in life, our modern-day fitness programs may help. But if one’s goal is to experience the joy of being fully alive, the excitement of feeling part of this pulsating universe, and the deep satisfaction of being a person who is both graceful and gracious, one must turn elsewhere.

    When I was a young man, being “earthy” was regarded as a virtue. I never hear anyone descibed that way anymore. Has the quality of having one’s feet on the ground lost its meaning? I believe it has. The modern individual is more properly described as “flying high and fast”. It is hard to slow down when the world is racing by. It is difficult to be grounded when the culture itself is ungrounded, when it denies reality and promotes an illusion that success represents a higher state of being and successful people live richer and more fulfilling lives. All the same, the real values of life are “earthy” values: health, gracefulness, connectedness, pleasure and love. But these values have meaning only if one’s feet are planted firmly on the ground.”

    Nothing helps me to get a good nights Sleep More than Craniosacral Therapy!

     

    Are you one of those people who tosses and turns at night? The racing thoughts keeping you wide awake? Well I am.After Menopause, I found myself sleeping less and less.

    One of the best things I decided to do is take Magnesium and other supplements which relax my body. But even better, I started treating myself to Craniosacral Therapy sessions once every week or two. That really calmed me down a lot.  Something about the combination though worked best for me.  Mostly because the tension inside melted away.

    I am not a nutritionist. But I am a Craniosacral Therapist myself.Almost everyday I see how Craniosacral Treatments relax the nervous system. The peace of mind that arises after a session fills the room.  It’s palpable in the joy that is present when a person can relax deeply inside.

    Grounding: 7 Fun Ways to Start Your Day Afresh

    What is Grounding?

    In all the years I have been doing healing work, whether energetic or geared toward embodiment, I have heard a lot of talk about grounding.  But what the heck does that word, “grounding” mean?

    In current times, grounding means reconnecting to the earth’s electric energy. I have often read and observed that when done properly, grounding can help calm anxiety and stress.  As a Craniosacral Therapist, while I am sitting at the feet of a person who comes into awareness of their body, it’s easy to sense their ” grounded presence’ down to the toes.  It feels very integrated, and full.

    Here are a few ideas you can try to have your own experience of grounding:

    1.  Breathe into your body with awareness. Mindfulness wakes up the body communication between the brain and the rest of yourself. Start by breathing in your head, and work downward until you embrace the sensation down to your toes.

    2.  Walk barefoot outside.  I know that when I walk outside, I feel my feet being supported by the earth.  I listen to what the earth sounds to me, and it feels so structured, nourishing and strong.  It’s great!

    3.  With loose wrists, do percussion slapping lightly around your whole body.  It’s sort of like cupping very quickly to a rhythm.  It’s stirs the nervous system into attention.

    4.  Jump into some water.  Either a shower, bath or a pool.  Soak and feel the sensations.  Water can help us to feels refreshed and awake.

    5.  Play with your dog or cat.  Animals are naturally grounded.  Interacting with them can bring such joy and groundedness.

    6.  Jump rope or jump on a small trampoline, or sit on a bounce ball.  All of these help to connect the feet and legs to the earth.  Of course waking up our lower part of our bodies well.

    7.  Dancing:  Anything that is done through movement with the body can be very grounding.  It’s fun, creative and opens us up to the more physical parts of ourself.

    I can’t tell you how many times people lose their connection to the ground, especially as they get older.  It’s important to connect to the physical part of our being.  It helps us to feel like the earth is here to provide us with what we need.  It helps us to trust in life.

    So when you are feeling afraid, or stressed.  Set your intention to reconnect again by grounding.  Make it a daily practice.  Notice how much more secure and happy you feel.  Pull yourself up from your bootstraps and take off!
