Surrendering Into Our Higher Selves

Surrendering Into Our Higher Selves

Surrendering To the Greatest Existence

(Which Exists and Doesn’t Exist)

Nothing could be better than being human. Surrendering. Do you feel that deep inside? A flame burns Within, and these makeshift bodies in which we live are candles of soft wax, living and breathing as skin. A sparkle of birth and an eagerness ebbing in and out of us like the ocean tide. Our fluids inside nourish and clear away the old, tasting of sea salt and blood. We are renewal itself. We are night and day, and we are indeed all the seasons.

We are constantly reaching internally through the tides of life and then testing the waters as we expand to the farthest distance of our comfort zone. We are a pulse. We are a particle. We are a wave in motion. We are experience Itself. We are Whole. We are pieces of the puzzle which all inter-connect to each other. We are one thing, and then we are another, ever-changing. We are still. We are active. We are organisms. We are stardust living an earthly life. A sparkler burns, with flickers of light landing in air, and we meld with the elements, transforming from one form to the other. We are souls living a very human existence. Deciding our level of surrendering.
.
This life as a human faces pain and suffering. Not one of us escapes such an encounter. So many of us look away, trying to pretend life is not as it is. We fight trust. We battle acceptance. We stop acknowledging the Truth which looks us in the eye. We build weapons, and start wars. We lie. We cheat. We steal. Sometimes we murder and we don’t look back. Calloused from the past and fear, we freeze in time. Numbness is the extreme state of loss. Complete forgetfulness. We lose our senses and know not why we came here. We dampen our glow. We try to fit in, even when it makes no sense. Cruelty and bullying. In our inconsequential smallness, we try to hurt each other. But mostly we hurt ourselves. Humanity is dimming. It’s lost its direction in so many ways. That first breath is withering. The air is dirty. The options have run out. Or so it seems.

The Light And Darkness. Yes, the tango seems to be slowing down. Movement comes to a halt, but underneath is the flickering longing to exist and to crawl. The need to grow. It’s so strong. It never dies. It can takes us through any challenge. It can place us high on a mountain top. It can have us walk through fire or miles of snow deep and bitter cold. It can be a mother’s embrace that nurses her baby back to health. It can be expressed in innumerable shades of human love and effervescence. The essence which lives inside this shell of a body is eternal. We are so much more than we have ever imagined. We are not isolated. Rather life gives us a rich unfurling chance at time and space. It gave us an opportunity to identify and to believe. Life is about expression and creativity.

We get to pretend that we are individuals, living independently and cut off. And then something whispers to us to wake up. What will we choose? The potential. We gain a rich understanding of self and relationship. We think that we have discovered truth and freedom. It feels real. It feels like we can touch reality. But what are we really doing here?

What is real? And who else could be the leaders, if not you and me, that make things happen for the best? Do we have any iota whether any of this is of our own doing? Or are we puppets on a string. Are we being played out. Or are we the the One? Wow that feels so overwhelmingly big to consider. Could it possibly be that we are more than our make believe limited human Self? Do we dare to imagine? Do all the possibilities of all of existence exist for us? Are there ways to navigate humanity in this day and age that lead us out of the possible extinction which knocks on our door every second by the darkness in which we swim?

I pause. I contemplate the feasibility that we can move into another direction than our past repetitions. What I do know, is that while I wonder if I can do it alone, the most important question really, is AM I Alone? I ask Existence to Show me more as I gratefully bow down to Greatness Before Me. When we consider how we are born, live and die alone as an individual person, are we really only about “me”? Or is there something larger, more grand in the scheme of life that is cheering us all on, wanting our evolution to be more than just empty space. Something that encourages unity over independence. I am not sure.

Something Created Us. Even if we are just a fragment of the Whole being brought through the human lungs. Maybe this adventure of being here on earth is an infusion of the Holy wanting to laugh in joy, and cry in the depths of sadness. Maybe the Oneness lives in us all, and also in the stars beyond with no expectation or outcome. What if we have the right to live as individuals, but also are awakened or not in a state of Harmony, Peace, and Compassion based on our soul’s yearning?. What if we are birthed to find a way to have it all? To feel that and to know that?

Today, I have learned to accept that I have no control. All there is for me in surrender. This body is aging. So much appreciation for it now. Placing my belly on the earth and feeling the solidity beneath. If I turn my head and look at the sky, I know that there is space forever beyond. I breathe in and breathe out. I feel myself. I gather my senses and say thank you. I try to live another day being the best person I can be. Even when the shadows envelope my sight. I keep thinking about the dance between me and the other. All the while feeling the mighty All singing in my veins. To live fully until I die into the Majesty. And wander into the Next.

Surrendering into ourselves in the Way…

I end. I begin.

How to Revive Your Digestion Health: Discover Visceral Manipulation

How to Revive Your Digestion Health: Discover Visceral Manipulation

Are You Experiencing Digestion Issues?

No Relief For Digestion Issues?

There are many digestion conditions that affect adults, and children too. The American diet has changed dramatically over the years, and the human body was not meant to consume the food that is being sold at grocery stores anymore. Reading a label may help but we still have no idea exactly what is being put into our foods. Which chemicals are being added, how is it genetically altered, and how it is being processed is a mystery. So we have that. Our bodies are just not getting the best nutrition they need, and overloads of chemicals,  unhealthy bacteria and parasites can wreak havoc on our internal environment.

Another issue that causes problems in the digestive process is that the organs can lose their motion and motility from unhealthy diets, and also from trauma (like a car accident with a seatbelt pressing hard) or through habitual habits.  The positive response to this though is to find a Visceral Manipulation Therapist from the Barral Institute who use their specialized techniques to help release organs to be freed back into healthy motion.  With a healthy nudge or encouragment, things can start to turn back on.  A healthy organ is living, dialoguing, and sliding against other living things inside our bodies. Functionality of the different digestion organs can dramatically improve after just one session.  Movement is Life!

As a Craniosacral Therapist, I incorporate the Visceral Manipulation into sessions.  With so many people coming in with Gerd, IBS, chronic constipation or diarrhea  and such,  visceral manipulation can be a great resource for healing.  I also recommend seeing a naturopath or a functional physician to adddres the nutrition aspect of your healing journey. Each body is different based on genetics and life experience. You deserve have your body understood and your health issues addressed holistically.  You deserve to take the time to have your real needs met.

Visceral Manipulation is an excellent modality to help the digestion in the liver, the stomach, the pancreas and all the viscera in the abdominal area.  It’s also helful for women’s health issues in the pelvis and also the thoracic region and head too.

If you would like to learn more about Visceral Manipulation, contact the Barral Institute.  If you live in the Columbus , Ohio area, contact Sharon Hartnett CST-D to try a session!

What is Craniosacral Massage?

What is Craniosacral Massage?

What is Craniosacral Massage?

Many people call me asking for Craniosacral Massage. The first thing I do is listen to why a person wants to come in.

People speak about their health issues, and often state that they have heard about Craniosacral Massage. Yet they don’t really know what it is. It’s important to me to take the time to explain the foundational basics,  and then to make sure they question and understand if this work is a good match for what they are looking for.

So I do want to start by clarifying that Craniosacral Therapy is not actually “Massage”. Instead, it is a light touch manual therapy with a very different focus. It’s based on the Craniosacral System and how it relates primarily to the Nervous System. Just to name a few, it’s great for people dealing with:

  1. Chronic Pain
  2. Headaches/Migraines/Concussions
  3. Fibromyalgia
  4. People looking for Body Centered Help with Trauma Release
  5. Scoliosis
  6. TMJ
  7. Anxiety

You can find out more on the Cleveland Clinic site:
https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/treatments/17677-craniosacral-therapy

or through the Upledger Institute.

Also, there is a big difference between practitioners and therapists. Practitioners may have taken a class, whereas therapists going through a rigorous process to get certified through the Upledger Institute are much more thorough and deep into the work.

While the touch of Craniosacral Therapy is very light and simple in a way, there is actually alot of complex anatomy and techniques to learn, as well as taking the time to gain experience in order to become a professional and  helpful therapist.  So if you are looking for a qualified person to meet your needs, ask them about their backgrounds and specilties.

I love Craniosacral Therapy because it can help almost everyone. Craniosacral Therapy is also attentive and gentle-yet profound.  It nudges the body into self-healing and deeper awareness. There are a few contraindications, but for the most part everyone can appreicate a healthier nervous system, more balance and fluidity through their bodies.

If you would like to find out more about Craniosacral Therapy, not craniosacral massage, please contact me and I offere free 10 minute phone consults.

Warmly,

How To Find Relief from Clenching

Clenching: You Deserve to Feel Better!

Is it possible to stop Clenching?

Bruxism is the name of the condition when you grind or are clenching your teeth.  Up to about 30 % of people do this.  Some people are aware that they clench.  And others not.

Clenching often happens when a person is stressed and awake. At other times, the clenching happens while sleeping at night. Eventually it is discovered, because it leads to pain or other issues like sleep disorders, pain in the face, issues with breathing, tinittus, and swallowing issues.

On a personal level,  I began to experience it after some concussions.  My jaw became misaligned.  Hitting ones head can also cause lots of stress when the cranium is knocked around.

I went to the dentist, and she gave me a mouth guard.  It was so uncomfortable I couldn’t wear it. Also, being a Craniosacral Therapist, I knew that it also inhibited the natural movement of the maxilla.  Didn’t work.  I will be honest and say that clenching has caused me a lot of issues.  On the positive note, I can also say that with persistence, one can help to alleviate and sometimes release all the tension contributing to bruxism.  It is possible to stop, but it may take patience to unwind all the causes which contribute to the condition.

Being a Craniosacral Therapist,  I have worked in my own mouth, and that has helped me considerably.  Releasing all the tension around the hyoid muscles is key.  Also working around the TMJ joint.  Above are some pictures to show you the inter-relationship between the the neck and jaw muscles.  The Upledger Institute teaches a whole protocol on mouthwork which is very beneficial.  I enjoy working with people just to see the relief they find with mouth work.

Also facing your stress and anxiety with gentleness, while receiving some help can change your life and heal the body as well.  There are many somatic approaches to addressing the body that are profound and create postive change.  Some examples are Hakomi, SE Work, Upledger SER therapy and such.

Also myofunctional therapists can help with exercises.

Dendending on the stress and structure, it may take time to release and integrate the stressed from clenching.  But there is help available.

Simply Explain the Purpose of Craniosacral Therapy

Simply Explain the Purpose of Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Columbus

Craniosacral Therapy

The cranium is the skull encasing the brain. Sacral refers to the triangular bone that is at the bottom of the back. Encapsulated within the vertebral column is the dura, deeper within- the arachnoid, and then the pia which surrounds the spine.

As Craniosacal Therapists trained at the Upledger Institute, we are listening and melding with the rhythm of the fluid which is circulating around the cranium down along the spine  (sub arachnoide space)and back up.  When we listen to this flow, we support the rhythm to free up any restrictions and to allow the fluid to nourish and clear away any issues in the Craniosacral System.

This is very soothing to the nervous system.  It’s an experience, and many people find themselves becoming very calm and relaxed.  And as we are also in connection with the fascia and other tissues, releases happen all the time on many different levels, with the benefits of the deeper intelligence moving the body toward equalibrium and integration.

Some things in the body are experiential and can’t be measured strictly.  Can Craniosacral Therapy help you?  I’d say yes.  It’s is very nurturing and I have felt such incredible change under my hands, and have seen beautiful afterglows on the faces of my clients.

People give great accounts to their internal senses and feelings shifting.  But truly,  when one person, any therapist, works with you intently, with skill and with compassion, something good always occurs.  With Craniosacral Therapy it is scientific and studies show it can be helpful.  However, it’s unqiues up to the individual on the table, how much they can receive and shift. The body is rather miraculous, especially with a little nudge to heal.

Neck and Back Pain Specialist Found!

Neck and Back Pain Specialist Found!

Releasing Neck and Back Pain

Pain along the spine can arise from many different reasons. Some of these triggers can be serious and some can be helped tremendously with manual therapy. If you are experiencing, for example, problems with your bladder, infection, inflammation, or severe acute pain, go see your physician of course.

Quite often pain can come from misalignment, muscle tension, torsion in the fascial patterning, or overdoing a certain activity which creates tension. If the problem is structural, Craniosacral Therapy can be super helpful.

Craniosacral Therapy is much more of a listening therapy than a deeply aggressive type of bodywork. Have you ever gone for a massage and the pressure hurt and the tissues did not soften?  Did you find yourself sore afterwards?

What’s great about Craniosacral Therapy is that, we as therapists. listen to the body tissues and allow them to show us the way into the dysfunctional patterns. There is no forcing, so the body doesn’t have to fight back. It’s much easier to access the tissues in the neck and spine this way for relief.

If you are struggling with neck and/or back pain, check out www.upledger.com.  Usually, there is a way to free up the neck and back for more mobility and health. Give yourself an opportunity to move into health with gentle support.

Ease Into Grace with Mindful Connection: Being in the Heart

Grace

Working today, I thought about how there are so many people who are suffering who could use some Grace.  Some people find help and relief. However, some don’t know how to find and connect with the healthy resources they need in order to get well. Perhaps they don’t have the financial means. Mostly what I run into though are the many women who don’t feel acknowledged in the healthcare system for chronic pain. Many tell me that they feel dismissed and unheard.

As a Craniosacral Therapist, I enjoy having the 75 minutes my sessions offer to help people.  It’s a therapy which addresses the whole person with grace.  When we connect, meld and bring spaciousness into awareness, the body can miraculously heal itself.  The Craniosacral Therapy relaxes the body, and enhances the nervous systems body to regulate.  Often, it’s a very deep and profound experience.

Today, in life, remember that there are people who are truly having a hard day.  Maybe a hard life.  I bring that a little deeper into my heart.  How can you bring some grace into the relationship and the Moment?

Back Pain Relief: Feel Better in Your Body

Back Pain Relief: Feel Better in Your Body

Back Pain

Have you ever had a massage, then gotten up off the table and still had back pain? That’s because it’s often the case that the front absominal area needs to be addressed too. The soft belly in the front!

Massage is focused on muscles. Yet- let’s not forget that there are also organs inside which are extremely important as well.  Learning anatomy and how the organs move is essential to releasing all the tension in this cavity. Sometimes the intestines or the kidneys (or other organs) can be stuck,  causing less than optimal functioning and contributing to back pain.  Relieving tension in the belly almost always helps the back and promote better functioning all around.

Visceral Manipulation, as taught by the Barral Institute has remedied belly and back issues for many of my clients.  Listening and supporting proprioceptive communication amonst the viscera turns the body back into support mode.  Motion and healthy relationship between the organs nurtures better health.

Visceral Manipulation is not massage, but rather a form of bodywork. There are massage therapists, PT’s, nurses, doctors and other manual therapists who use these techniques.  Osteopath Jean-Pierre created this work to move these tools out into the world to help deepen and share the benefits.  Check out the Barral Institute for more information.

Sharon Hartnett CST-D has been incorporating Visceral Work into her Craniosacral Work for many years.  She has taken the first four levels and the listening classes through the Institute.

Healing: The Most Powerful Force Is Found in Nature

Healing: The Most Powerful Force Is Found in Nature

Healing Arises From a Place Deeper Than the Physical Body.

Healing.  When we walk outside on a beautiful day,  it’s easy to feel the harmony of life in nature.  There is a flow, an order, and also innate structure which allows life to happen.

There exists a summation of all the individual parts that enhance the whole.  The changes of the seasons, the new beginnings and endings all give us an idea of the depth of life beyond what we can even imagine.  Life makes sense, yet there is still the Unknown.

The mystery. When life goes off course, miracles do happen. Quite often something which is needed gets brought into the equation to make it all work.  Yet it not usually the case that we can MAKE healing happen.  Rather it’s like an ingredient that is gathered in and offered.  It’s the right combination.  It’s the melding into unity that gives rise to strength and recovery.

With Craniosacral Therapy, and Visceral Manipulation, it is usually the listening, blending, and the gentle touch that suggests a new possibility.  The invisible intelligence within connects down to the cellular level, the tissues, the organs and a whole system.  I feel this with all of the people who rest on my table. Often it feels like bringing in change and a new way that opens the door for turning on shifts, growth and integration.

For clients, in between sessions, I often recommend taking off the shoes and walking through a park and feeling the earth’s grounding as life unfolds.  Observe the sky which goes beyond the clouds and through space.  Imagine all the things to which we are all connected. Some known, but most not.

Healing, is more than the body.  It’s the life force and intelligence that is experienced throughout all of nature.

Listen to your body.  Notice how you belong, and how all things fit into the pulse of life.

Easy Problem Solving In the Moment

Easy Problem Solving In the Moment

Problem Solving is an Intention.

Every day problems arise. They can all add up and feel totally overwhelming.  Low grade stress can actually help. Especially when we have a lot on our plates.  It helps us to become motivated to “Do”.  Our body takes us into first gear.

On the other hand, when we are intentionally organized, we slow down and focus on what is right here, right now.  The simplicity of this can bring effortlessness into any stressful situation.  Quiet internal rest helps our mind and bodies to relax and make space to be better responsive to life and problems.

When we don’t use this structural equation of the dance between  these two components of action and restful moments, it can become too much.  We need balance between the doing and the “Being” to find peaceful resolution.  It’s a combination of “Being” and taking “Action”.  Mixing the both to be one is optimal.

Problem Solving

Here is a great map to help us move through life more easily.  There is flow, but there is clear direction. Clarity makes life so much easier.

The idea is to be mindful when action is needed. This includes being restful and allowing internal spaciousness. In this place of expansion, new ideas can come in. When we apply them to our clear structure, things get done.  It’s the mix between balance point and motion.

Craniosacral Therapy can be very useful when we are streesed, overwhelmed and/or confused.  It helps a person to settle into the body.  It promotes healing, balance and motion.  It calms the mind and brings most people back into the “Now”.  This is the clearest place from which we can be living in.

Intentional problem solving is best done when it is not based in fear nor reactionary.  Craniosacral Therapy in my practice has shown me how much a person’s stress system can calm down.  My clients start anew with a fresh new attitude after sessions.

We are all in charge of our choices.  And that’s what we have to live.  “Yes” or “No”, live life in balance and with purpose if you are interested in the easiest way to develop and use problem solving skills.  Find the calm inner strength inside of you and live from there!
