If you are reading this, you are probably curious about Energy Healing.
And what I’d ask you is, “What is your own particular experience?” Because Energy Healing is an Experiential that is unique to each person.
A subtle feeling of vibration in the air? Or a touch that infused you with what feels like energy healing? Have you seen auras that are colors or fields of energy? Or perhaps felt an energy in the room without seeing anyone or anything?

Energy Healing
Most of us have experience these things, especially as children. After all, the world is made of energy. In Quantum Physics it is known that nothing is actually solid, but rather energy. Physical atoms are made of of vortices of energy that are spinning. We are each made with our own unique blueprint that contains structure but also flow. When we are young, our senses are open, and we perceive all types of things. Including living energy for many. But as we get older, we are told how to think and identify things. Our brains become wired to live in a world where we can feel most connected, and where we speak the same language. But there is a Universal language that goes beyond the words we use. And in that-everything is interconnected and alive.
Anyone who is interested can bring awareness to Energy Healing. But it takes an open mind. The most important skill for this is to listen with a curious mind, to feel with mindfulness something new. A few things one might try are:
- Look around trees. They have so much light that emanate from them. Soften your gaze. Listen. Or if you are more of the type of person who senses things physically- feel the tree. Trees always share their energy. Maybe that’s why there are so many tree huggers!
- If you have a friend who is open, have them stand in one place. Put your hands in front of you, and while you walk toward him/her, just feel. Stay open, and bring awareness to your internal process. There are different levels of energy consciousness in the human energy field. You will learn to feel different things the closer or farther you go.
- Ask you guardian angel or spirit guides to dialogue with you. When your Higher Self is ready to ask from the heart, these beings of Light are always at hand.
- Study Quantum Science. If you are an intellect, read and explore.
- Take Classes. There are schools like, “The Barbara Brennan School of Healing“, classes in Reiki, Seraphim Blueprint etc… that will teach you the tools you need to become more self-aware.
Working with Energy is amazing. When one is ready to meet and adventure in new consciousness, they can’t help but to be changed by new experience. Most people I know who have a taste of spirituality this way, follow the path. Why? The mind is freer and the heart more joyful when it opens up to the Divine. Because there is truth in opening up to God and the openness of Unity, Love, and Peace. Once we know this, we feel renewed.
If you have any questions, please look at Barbara’s book, “Hands of Light”.
Or call if you are interested in a Energy Healing.

Avoiding your pain at all costs?
My guess is that most people would prefer not to feel their pain. It makes sense though, doesn’t it? Who would want to feel pain? Perhaps-that’s why we have so many defense mechanisms in place to supposedly protect us. We are like walking miracles where much of our pain is suppressed…. until it resurfaces or is found out!

Feeling Deeply into Pain to Heal
When people come in for a massage at my office, they are usually feeling some type of discomfort or pain that continues to call for attention. I often hear about chronic pain that doesn’t resolve and the stress and sleep deprivation that makes things even worst. My clients biggest wish is they would like to feel better. Yet, it’s hard to do this alone when we have learned to avoid our pain. Whether you go to a Massage Therapist, a Psychotherapist, a Chiropractor, whoever, it’s good to receive help from another perspective. You may not find the solution up front, but if you stay with it, and trust your own inner sense to guide you, you will get help that best suits your individual needs.
As a licensed Massage Therapist for 18 years, my observation after working with many clients, is that the truth is that the longer we are organized against feeling the “soft” pain, all the energy that is kept in protection to support this dynamic, starts to lose it ability to keep us separated from the pain. Eventually, the pain seeps through and one symptom start to show up, and another and another. Pain is only meant to be temporary to let us know when we are in real danger. Afterwards, we need to learn to shake it off or process it efficiently.
When I first started working, I was drawn toward Structural Integration Work, developed by Dr. Ida Rolf. When I received my first 10 sessions of this myofascial therapy, I felt great. In my thinking and experience, working with fascia became key to gaining a sense of wellbeing. Working with releasing dysfunctional fascial patterns has helped many of my clients release pain and find better posture. Then I found myself attracted to Energy Therapy. I know this sounds far out to many people, but in fact everything is made out of energy. Some people are born with a gift to perceive it and work with healing, and others can learn this. So I attended the Barbara Brennan School to study Brennan Healing Science. While there, I learned that soft pain was held in the Human Energy Field. There are many tools a “healer” can use to facilitate healing this way: clearing energy, charging the field, helping clients to awaken to their “Inner Wisdom”. As with most Massage Therapists, I went on to study another course to study “Hakomi” to add to my toolbox. Most of my class mates were Social Workers, Psychotherapists and such, but I enjoyed learning new and deeper skills to help people with emotional pain based on beliefs that were long held. Hakomi is an organic and gentle type of therapy that is kind and organic. The compassionate standpoint of this work has helped my clients try new things without any judgment or harshness. My last great passion was to study at the Upledger Institute, to gain a more extensive understanding of how to work with the brain, the Craniosacral System, and SomatoEmotional Release. With all of this and more said and done, what I have realized is that people have unique make-ups of how they run their living patterns. When they become stuck on one level, if it is not able to be cleared, pain stays in that system. So if someone truly wants to heal, they need to meet that place of suffering and/or pain with an open heart and a willingness to feel the “soft” pain in order to transform it.
Loving our pain is not a new concept, but I suppose most people might not have thought about it this way. All things are derived from Love. Our defenses only kick in because something is painful in the moment and we did not find a way to complete itself. Yet the mind, body, spirit connection is always waiting to complete itself into the next cycle of growth. So whether you come in and need deep fascial or muscle work, or light touch, give yourself a chance to work with a therapist long-term to explore your relationship to pain and finding ways to release it. In my opinion, the easiest way to feel good is to acknowledge what is present and feel it at your comfort level until the patterns dissolve. Using a SomatoEmotional approach can be very telling, as the body is always dialoguing what it needs, if we only listen and respect what is communicated.
Sometimes, during a first session, even after all this time, I am not spot-on, but I do learn something with every touch, sound, and exchange. I gain knowledge and compassion for the highest good of my clients on my table. So we try many different approaches to resolving pain issues, and happily I can say that I have seen many clients leave my office astounded by how much better they feel. But it’s important to remember that if you are just off the table, the endorphins will wear off, but if you stay with the clarity, staying committed to the work that is needed, and the homework that your MT’s give you, the long-term result are quite possible.
Remember: Love your pain because it is telling you something needs to be addressed. Something deeper than you probably know.
Imagine your life if you stopped thinking pain was “bad’ and learned to flow and dance with it in life.
It might actually change into something special!

Have you heard of the Barbara Brennan School of Healing?
If not, you have missed out on this generations’s wave of Energy Healing that has been incorporated into so many new healing practices across the globe. The School’s many graduates are working in many countries bringing about positive transformation and healing. This may show up as an individual’s journey, using techniques in the workplace, working with clients in a practice, through teaching others, to writing books and influencing others on a large scale. Whatever the case, this school has changed the face of the world in which we live. This work has opened our minds and hearts to a new vision.
The Barbara Brennan School became most popular in the 1990’s. Pioneered by Dr. Barbara Ann Brennan, the schools foundations were initiated by a group of well trained teachers taught under this gifted healer. She would guide them and share her meditations and guidance to bring more awareness to the Human Energy Field and how to heal. For many years she did School Healings and Channeled “Seeds of Spirit”. Thousands of healers have received instruction and have taken this transformational energy healing work out into the world to do good.

Healing through the Human Energy Field
Barbara Brennan
Her “Hands of Light” book sold in the millions. Students flocked to her school with different hopes, but with a common intention to heal and bring healing to world.
In the late 1990’s I was one of the many who finally made it to the doorstep of the school up in New York. It was an exciting time because I had finally found a teaching that made sense to me. The four dimensions that are still taught in the book are based on a variety of old teachings and were brought into a cohesive text that is easily teachable for those ready to learn and to grow. Over my first four years there, I read that book and other materials over and over as the skills were taught. My life experiences opened up and my conscious perspective on life shifted dramatically. I learned to perceive the energy field through my vision, sensing and empathy. Sometimes, my experiences of Higher Sense Perception expanded to hearing sounds, music, and guidance. Finally, this reaching beyond with knowing became a natural part of my daily life. One might think that this was a special thing, but I looked around and could see the rest of my peers becoming more present and awake too. It was and adventure to be at the Barbara Brennan school with all my fellow visionaries. We had all come together with a purpose and a plan of some sort to bring meaning into our lives and make an impact on the world.
After four years under my belt, I decided to go back and study two more years in the advance work, and another two years to do Supervision. The energy of the school and the profound changes within the community and how it touched others urged me forward. In my own healing practice, the focus of my work changed depending on where I was focused in the moment. Most recently, my gears have shifted from the energy work to the Awakening Skills mixed with Craniosacral Therapy. Most importantly, all the wonderful tools I learned about characterology, holding a healing response, chelations, hara, and Core Start taught me how to help others to align with fulfilling their optimal health and manifesting true change. I found that one of the best ways to feel good about oneself is to be able to find meaning in relationship. In the healer-client relationship, one always centers first. But thereafter, the focus is on the client and moving out of the way to allow the work to unfold. The mystery of the energy work removes blocks and allows the field to renew and re-energize. Clients often get up at the end of a session and know that something important has happened. It’s a joy to be part of the process of helping others.
Since the turn of the millennium, many schools have popped up that are also quite good at teaching energy dynamics. But there is a special place for me in my heart where I studied and taught on the Faculty at the Barbara Brennan School of Healing. It was there that a community of ongoing people have and are still creating a healing thread that impacts the earth in so many ways. With each person’s individual gift, something incredible and fantastic happens. Even now, as I supervise students, I am aware of the movement the soul that happens there. I am gladdened by the way this is passed forward.
Even though I have studied many courses/trainings since, I still like to recommend the Barbara Brennan School to people who are interested in learning a thorough curriculum of healing and transformation. There is no other place like this that I have ever seen or witnessed.
I have been so blessed for my teachers and friends that I met there too. The Sacred Vessel of the Barbara Brennan School is a place where you will rediscover Who You Are and how to move toward living in your full potential.

Over the last few decades, Dr. Barbara Brennan has seen her healing techniques and teachings spread across the globe, touching the lives of many students, clients, and people who have attended her school and/or studied her books, “Hands of Light” and Light Emerging”.
Her four year program at the Barbara Brennan School of Healing” has continued to provide a sanctuary for people from all aspects of life in which to learn about healing and how their personal healership can support positive change in the world. There is no other setting quite like this school that can offer such a profound sense of community, bent in service to the Higher Purpose of Life. BBSH is a unique container of intentional movement toward the evolution of the human Spirit.

As a graduate of the school, I’d like to share some of my insights into the many benefits of attending this school:
A little bit about the school from a graduate’s perspective: The school is based on a four year curriculum, planned out to promote self awareness and energy transformation. In the most simple terms, the first year is very gentle and explorative in a nurturing sense. It is an opportunity to gain better understanding of Self, and how our Human Energy Field operates. As one approaches the second a year, a different template of energy is held to deepen into our whole sense of Self by further exploring our dualistic beliefs, wounding, defense systems and how we create conflict and resolve issues in our relationships. In my opinion, this year often opens us up to aspects of self where we dared not look in a long time. However, as we learn to listen to our Higher Selves, we gain insights from our darkness, and the light begins to shine brighter and brighter revealing our true natures. The third year takes us on another turn. This year challenges us to examine our relationship with God. Often authority issues are revealed and our limited thinking is dropped to open us to be more closely aligned with the Divine Mind. One learns to restructure chakras, to hold the 5th level of the energy field and so much more. Finally, when one enters the fourth and last year, the students take the time to write a research project and present a Case Study. This last year pulls the work together through working with the intention of Hara and rediscovering the Core Star connection we each have to the Divine.
To enter this portal of deep transformation and change, one has to be very committed. One has to learn to trust that by letting go of our old paradigms, that new wisdom and light will lead the way through our darkest trials. Students learn to recognize their strategies and defenses that no longer serve. With all pretenses dropping away, we have learned to become transparent and reconnected to the Whole. Even after graduation, we continue to question and explore in the dance of the Light , opening our hearts and our minds.
Most people who graduate, take the work they have learned from Barbara Brennan, her teachers and community out into their regular daily lives. But something integral to our way of Being has shifted. As we continue to use the skills, we weave our insights and essence into everything around us. We wake up to Source in everything we see with fresh eyes. Blocks that once held us frozen still dissolve easily, and the passage of life is easier to transverse.
I am not going to say that going the Barbara Brennan School of Healing is an easy journey. But it is a journey worth taking. The curriculum and support that show up at the school will help to heal your deepest wound. It will help you to navigate through life with more ease and grace. It will loosen your ties to the past and free you up to live more fully with Presence in the Moment.
Dr. Barbara Brennan dedicated her life to teaching and sharing her work. The Template of study and experience will dramatically change how you view life no matter how you look at it. If you are wanting to discover your True Essence, this is the place to start. If you want to look toward doing healing work with others out in the world, this school will give you the tools and Presence. Open up to your deepest longing and allow this community to support you in rediscovering your potential and True Self. Your beliefs are not you. You are so much more than you ever imagined yourself to be.

At Lighten Up Therapies, my hope is to find a way to engage the entire “Beingness” of my clients. I truly believe that my role is to be an educator and a questioner in the process of awakening into wholeness and comprehensive health. Your session is about having your needs met and in allowing healing and movement to take place to support your Wellbeing. This is often best served through exploration into the mind body & spirit connection
- Mind Body & Spirt

Mind Body & Spirt
Massage can be an experience where you just come into relax. Some clients have a difficult time quieting down with their work and busy schedules. The best thing for them to do is close their eyes and enjoy. Massage can increase circulation, lymph flow, relax muscles, lengthen the connective tissues and balance the body’s systems.
are other benefits to Massage Work too. Massage is a field that has grown wide and deep. There is Medical Massage, Swedish Massage, Thai Stretching, Lymphatic Massage, along with many other specialty areas. Massage Therapists often get pulled into a certain direction depending on their love for the work and their own proclivity towards the various modalities of healing. To be a Massage Therapist in most states, one has to take Continuing Education before renewing their licenses. This is good news to our clients because it keeps us on top of all the new developments and expertise out in the field. Education helps us to keep doors open so that we can introduce new techniques, understand medical issues, and be aware of the ethics involved in being a bodyworker. With this said, I have taken the path of exploring the Mind Body & Spirit Connection with myself as a practitioner and with my clients in order to enhance quality of life. This does not mean that I see myself as a psychotherapist because I do not. Education is more my focus. However, I do have a lot of experience working with clients who bring up physical, emotional and spiritual issues. I don’t give advise, but I do follow my client’s own body intelligence and support them in finding their own truth for the most part. I trust that we each have a connection to our own Source, and my job is to support self-discovery and deeper contact at the client’s request. My training at the Barbara Brennan School of Healing and the Hakomi Institute have taught me to allow the organic process of bringing awareness into the present moment so that the mind can still enough to bring forth more spaciousness and opportunity to step outside of tension and conflict on many levels. Touch is one of the best ways to do this, especially once trust is established and the sensations of the body are changing the brain’s perception of history to the present moment. When we feel safe and at ease in our bodies, it is easier to address other issues that arise. A professional Massage Therapist will ask you what you need to feel comfortable and to build a confidential and trusting environment for you to relax and touch into the calm waters of your “Being”.
I find that it is helpful to listen to my client’s wishes when they visit. I usually take an additional 15 minutes for intake on the first session so that I can hear their history and understand their concerns. I like to know what has been helpful in the past and what they didn’t like. It’s important to respect a client’s feelings and to engage where he/she feels comfortable. Once this happens, the mind, body & spiritual issues naturally begin to unfold and open into a place of more light and clarity. So when the intake is complete, I invite the session to be about what is happening in the moment. What this does is to allow the mind to take in a new awareness, even when the brain is thinking about all the different things that it does. By Witnessing, Experiencing and being Curious during a session, the light inside becomes more transparent and it’s easier to feel healthier and to make better decisions about life and how one wants to use their energy. The massage is helpful in bringing more attention to the cellular awareness and discovering the tensions and the role they play in your life. I like to think that our issues have a positive role in helpful us to see things that we may avoid in order to help us resolve past issues whether physical or otherwise. This type of bodywork is meant to Awaken the mind body & spirit Experience. It aligns clients with a more holistic approach to life.
Either way… a massage to relax and fall asleep or a bodywork session to awaken and enliven the senses, Massage can be very beneficial to you and your evolving Spirit. Our Spirits are living in these human bodies… transformational tools for our hearts, psyches and physical health. Be proactive in your Self-Care and your quality of life can be much better. Whatever is happening in life can be eased by feeling good with yourself.
Warmly,
mind body & spirit connection
